4.1 This practice proposes considerations and methods of compliance for precipitation effects for Specification F3117/F3117M, Pilot Compartment View.

4.2 Plexiglass windows inherently provide an acceptable pilot view in case of precipitation in non-icing conditions without a coating and are not subject to the requirements of this practice. For novel configurations such as glass windshields with neither hydrophobic coatings nor traditional precipitations protection methods, applicants must discuss their means of compliance with their certification authority.

4.3 Specific types of protection means have additional considerations related to maintenance and continued operational safety.

4.4 The requirements herein are organized such that an Applicant can identify the specific sections that apply to their design implementation. Any other sections can be identified by the Applicant as “Not Applicable.”
